THE current global economic downturn could have consequences extending well into next decade.
This is what delegates at the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines annual assembly of presidents was told recently.
Association director-general Andrew Herdman said the downturn posed "significant implications for investment and capacity management".
Mr Herdman said AAPA members were bracing for "tough times" in 2009, on expectations of a further deterioration in passenger and cargo demand during the first half of the year. The outlook remained "highly uncertain", as consumer confidence around the world had been severely damaged.
A prolonged downturn could mean "no growth between 2008 and 2010", according to Mr Herdman.
