"The Singapore Tourism Board will cover about 60% of race organizer Singapore GP's annual costs; Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry S Iswaran says those costs could come to S$150 million (US$105 million). Investing that much in showing off its splashy side, Singapore wants as many viewers as possible.
"The government is really trying to put Singapore on the world map and promote it as a vibrant place to live, and not the government-controlled sterilized place that it has a reputation for in the world," says Julian Jackson, a senior vice president at Total Sports Asia, a sports marketing agency."
