"If you were told one fine day that a deadly industrial chemical had been deliberately introduced into milk produced in China for world consumption, would you be more concerned about knowing the range of products on retail which may be directly and indirectly implicated, or would you take the heroic stand that your body can withstand the chemical abuse and thus continue to test that theory by adding more into your system?
The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) of Singapore certainly thinks that ingesting poison is nothing to concern the psyche of a state agency tasked to ensure the safety of food products offered to the public. And that brings their core values of professionalism, care, integrity, and service excellence into serious doubt.
Melamine is exactly such an industrial chemical which is used in manufacturing plastics. Ingesting Melamine can cause the chemical to precipitate out as crystals in the kidney, resulting in kidney stone formation, kidney failure, urinary stones, and obstruction of the urinary system. In animals, sufficient doses can result in bladder cancer."
