The state of Singapore will once again host its annual celebrations of independence this year with a spectacular event at Marina Bay.

Arguably the highlight of the party, which will be held on August 9th, will be the fireworks show, which traditionally crowns the festivities every year.

Prior to the fireworks, the evening is kicked off with a carnival and energetic street performances.

Some 27,000 people are expected to gather in the seating gallery that will be set up at Marina Bay for the festival, with a further 100,000 along the bay itself.

This will not be the limit of the event's reach, however, as it will also be broadcast to more than two million television viewers worldwide.

The parade and the fireworks show, as well as the party that continues long into the night, are intended to celebrate Singapore's independence from Malaysia, which it gained in 1965.

Singapore is a bustling city-state in south-east Asia, comprising areas such as Chinatown, Little India and Kampong Glam, which are famous for their cuisine.
