Singapore Airlines is starting a new all-business-class service between Newark and Singapore on May 15, using Airbus A340-500 ultra-long-haul airliners configured with 100 flat-bed business-class seats. James Boyd, a Singapore Airlines spokesman, said demand for all-business-class service on the 18 ½-hour nonstop flight to Singapore has been “very strong.” Singapore Airlines also plans to begin all-business-class service between Los Angeles and Singapore in September, making it the first airline to offer this service across the Pacific, he said. The airline is converting cabins on five of its A340-500s — which it normally flies configured with 181 seats in two classes — for use in the new service.
