Currencies worth some 27mn taka belonging to several countries in the Gulf have been seized from three outbound passengers at the Zia International Airport.

Customs officials said they arrested three youths who were bound for Singapore with the consignment by an SQ flight scheduled at 10pm on Wednesday.

The arrested were identified as Mohammed Selim, 16, Yunus Ali, 17, and Mohammed Rajon, 18.

Customs officials followed the three while they were taking boarding pass at about 9pm after finding their movement suspicious. Checking some of their bags, the officials found Saudi Riyal 1.48mn, Kuwaiti Dinar 23,500 and Qatar Riyal 5,000 inside the baggage.

The currencies were concealed inside many bottles, including bottle of pickle, tooth powder and talcum powder.

The arrested were handed over to the Airport police station after filing a case under the Money Laundering Act.
