KUALA LUMPUR: Singapore teams will now have to pay an entry fee of S$500 for participation in all the domestic competitions in Malaysia.
The tournaments in which Singapore usually feature are the Under-14, Under-16, Under-21 and the Razak Cup. Previously, there were no fees for the Under-14 and Under-16 tournaments.
The decision to impose the fee on Singapore teams was made at the Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) council meeting on Saturday.
Former MHF competitions committee chairman Majid Manjit Abdullah said that the entry fee for the Malaysia Junior Hockey League (MJHL) had been increased from RM200 to RM300 and the fee for the Malaysia Hockey League (MHL) had been set at RM1,000 for both categories (Division One and Two).
Manjit also said that the MHF would stage the Razak Cup competition in Kuala Lumpur in August if the national team did not qualify for the Beijing Olympics.
“Otherwise, it will be held in October. The MHL will also start in October if the national team make it to the Beijing Games,” he said.
The domestic calendar begins with the MJHL on Feb 8 followed by the national Under-16 tournament from March 8-16 at a venue to be decided following the withdrawal of Penang as hosts. The Under-14 tournament will be held from Aug 16-24 in Perak while the Champion Schools competition will be held in Malacca from July 19-27.
At the meeting there were also changes to the chairman of the committees with MHF vice-president Datuk Dr S.S. Cheema taking over from Manjit in competitions.
Manjit takes over the media committee from deputy president Tunku Abdul Majid Idris.
