Jetstar will be considering using Changi in Singapore as its long-haul operations hub, when services begin sometime in the next few years, according to an Australian newspaper.

A report in The Age made the announcement as the industry speculates whether or not Jetstar Australia’s long-haul services into Europe will eventually be split with sister airline Jetstar Asia.

For the time being, both sides any denying any current plans and Jetstar Asia is yet to fully commit to long-haul services of their own.

While Jetstar Australia’s long-haul plans have suffered a slight setback with the further delays on the Dreamliner 787 project, it does emphasise that it won’t hurt too much due to activity in the short-haul market.

Jetstar is gearing up to receive delivery of several Airbus A320s and A321s.

The Qantas Group is likely to file a compensation claim with Boeing in recent days, and Jetstar is mostly assured of seeing some of that payout.

“We will get compensation from Boeing for the delay,” commented Jetstar CEO Alan Joyce.

The Qantas group had pursued an AU$104 million compensation claim earlier with Airbus for the late delivery of its A380s.
