Ng Boon Gay sacked from police force despite acquittal in corruption case

A senior Singapore police official was dismissed from public service on Wednesday, nearly a year after he was acquitted of receiving sexual favors in return for influencing government tenders.
“Following the conclusion of civil service disciplinary proceedings, the Public Service Commission has decided to retire Mr. Ng Boon Gay in the public interest,” effective Wednesday, a Home Affairs Ministry spokesman said. Singapore’s Public Service Commission is the statutory agency responsible for civil-service appointments and discipline. The ministry spokesman didn’t elaborate on why Mr. Ng was dismissed. Full story
