Singapore and Bangkok replace Dubai as new epicentres for gold smuggling into India

Dubai no longer the hot centre; latest modus operandi involves carriers from Bangalore, Hyderabad.
In two different cases, the Air Intelligence unit (AIU) of airport customs, last Wednesday, apprehended gold bars valued over Rs72 lakh, from two passengers arriving from Singapore.
In yet another case, on September 21, another passenger was arrested at the airport after he illegally attempted to sneak in Rs42 lakh worth of gold bars from Bangkok.
These two are just a few of the many cases indicating a trend about the gold smuggling syndicate changing their modus operandi. Now, most of the smuggled gold are being brought into the city airport from Bangkok or Singapore. Full story
