US littoral warship deployed to Singapore suffers from frequent breakdowns

The first real-world deployment of the Navy littoral combat ship Freedom was supposed to boost the controversial vessel’s credibility. But, despite some successes with Asian navies, the ship’s tour to Singapore has raised even more questions about its future.
The $500 million prototype ship has broken down three times, still leans heavily on civilian contractors for maintenance, and Congress is just as concerned as ever. Full story
