Filipinos in Taiwan are advised to disguise themselves to avoid harassment and assault

Manila Bulletin, 16 May 2013
An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) on Thursday advised his kababayans in Taiwan to disguise themselves when going out to avoid being discriminated by locals who are impassioned for the killing of a Taiwanese fisherman by members of the Philippine military during an encounter in overlapping waters of the two countries last week
In a radio interview, Michael Yao Lee, who works in the southern part of Taiwan, claimed that there were reports that Filipinos were actually harassed by angry Taiwanese.
"We also heard reports that one OFW was hit by a baseball bat by a Taiwan national and is now confined in a hospital," said Lee.
To avoid being harassed, Lee urged other Filipinos there to "disguise themselves when they go out."
"One convenience store closed its doors on a Filipino customer, another refused to sell goods," said Lee. "Two Filipino stores in Taipei were reportedly stoned by passersby." Full story
