23-year-old Indian national fined for engaging services of unlicensed employment agency

The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) in Singapore has prosecuted an employer for engaging an unlicensed employment agent. With a fine of $2000 being levied on the employer this is the first prosecution case since the revised Employment Agencies Act (EAA) came into force in 2011. The legisaltion was introduced as the Minister sought to get even tougher against persons who engage unlicensed EAs at the expense of law-abiding and compliant ones.
This case concerned a 23-year-old Indian national Sadh Aakash Raman (Sadh) who pleaded guilty to one charge of engaging the services of an unlicensed employment agency (EA). Sadh had engaged Balaguru S/O Amirthalingam, who did not have a valid EA licence, to submit an application for an Employment Pass for his uncle. He was fined $2,000 by the court. Full story
