SingTel Backs Indian partner Bharti Airtel, Sunil Mittal in Telecom Irregularities Allocation Case

Singapore's SingTel (SGAPY) Wednesday threw its weight behind its Indian partner Bharti Airtel Ltd. (532454.BY), saying it has full faith in the Indian company's corporate governance standards led by its chairman Sunil Mittal.
Singtel's statement comes a day after Mr. Mittal was summoned by an Indian court to face criminal charges in a case related to alleged irregularities in the allocation of telecom bandwidth in 2002.
"We are confident that Bharti Airtel Ltd. and Mr. Mittal have always upheld and practised the highest standards of corporate governance in all aspects of the company's operations, including the acquisition of spectrum," Singtel, which owns about a third of Bharti, said in a statement. Full story
