If you are currently shopping for a TV with an integrated digital tuner in Singapore, there is a high possibility that the set will be obsolete within a year. This is all because of a compatibility issue, which arises due to a new DVB-T2 standard for free-to-air digital broadcasting, that is due to be adopted by local broadcaster Mediacorp by late 2013. Except for the latest panels such as the Sony KD-84X9000 4K TV, most of the existing and older displays retailing in Singapore are still based on the original DVB-T standard. While DVB-T2 is backward compatible with DVB-T signals, it doesn't work for the other way round. Full story
