This is all because of a compatibility issue, which arises due to a new DVB-T2 standard for free-to-air digital broadcasting, that is due to be adopted by local broadcaster Mediacorp by late 2013. Except for the latest panels such as the Sony KD-84X9000 4K TV, most of the existing and older displays retailing in Singapore are still based on the original DVB-T standard.
