NOV 18 — Much has been discussed, ad nauseam, about the cause of the deep malaise presently plaguing the collective consciousness of Singaporeans. And, like a tumor, the discomfort simply refuses to go away, and instead, it grows and grows until one is overwhelmed by it.
Such unease manifests as electorate wrath, albeit a gentle one, in the recent GE 2011, in which the PAP regime garnered only 60.1 per cent of the popular vote (but notwithstanding notions of fairness or unfairness, somehow managed to procure for itself almost all of the contested seats in the Parliament). The unease also takes on a rather disturbing and regrettable form — xenophobia — as evident from the growing online vitriol against foreigners in Singapore. Full story
