Singapore has always been an immigrant society. If you look back to the roots of your own family, you do not have to go back very far to find somebody who came to Singapore from elsewhere and decided to sink roots here.
Our diversity has been a huge strength for Singapore, but also meant that we need to put in additional effort to build national cohesion.
