OPINION: Raddy Avramovic should leave now - Alan Grant

So Singapore football coach Raddy Avramovic’s spluttering reign is seemingly coming to an end. “At last” the legion of Lions fans can be heard exclaiming. But the big question is how has he survived for so long? And why isn’t he going now instead of after the upcoming AFF Suzuki Cup?
Under Raddy, Singapore has never qualified for the Asian Cup Finals, nor even reached the final stage of Asian qualifiers for the World Cup. This is a small country with a limited pool of talent so that is perhaps understandable, but still a position of 162nd in the official FIFA rankings is quite galling. But it’s the last World Cup campaign that was particularly damning and hard to take for Lions fans. Six matches, six defeats. The last of these “contests”, a disgraceful 7-1 loss to Iraq, was in February of this year. It beggars belief that any other national manager would have kept his job after such an inglorious run. Even if the FAS blazers didn’t have the guts to fire him then, what kind of ego must Raddy have if he couldn’t see that falling on his own sword was the only honourable thing to do? Full story
