Did Kreta Ayer-Kim Seng CCC put primary school children's lives at risk during Mid-Autumn Festival rehearsal?

TR Emeritus, 20 Sep 2012
A reader of TRE had wrote in to reveal that during the rehearsal of the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration at Chinatown, the roads were not closed. As such, it endangered the lives of the performers especially when young primary school children were among them (‘Endangering the Lives of our Children for the President‘).
The reader said, “Last Sunday, President Tony Tan officiated the lighting up of Chinatown for the Mid-autumn festival with a record number of lanterns. At the light-up ceremony, 300 local and overseas performers came together to try to impress the President and his people. Amongst the performers were young primary school children whose lives were completely disregarded by the organizer during rehearsal the day before”.
Some of the performances were carried out on South Bridge Road and there was no closure of roads on Sat (15 Sep), the day of the rehearsal. The young primary school children were actually made to dance in the open road during the rehearsal. The road, of course, was closed on Sunday evening for President Tony Tan and his entourage.
Commenting on the purported incident earlier prior to this article, Dr Lily Neo, who is the adviser to grassroots organizations in that area said that she was “under the impression that the roads were closed” and promised that she “shall look into this and shall ensure that it won’t happen again” Full story
