Human rights group condemns Yale over school's tough stance on student political activity at new Singapore campus

NEW HAVEN — An international human rights group is condemning Yale University for agreeing to curb student political activity and organized political protest at its satellite campus in Singapore, slated to open next year.
Yale officials, meanwhile, insist they haven’t compromised the school’s ideals. Rather, they say, they’ve negotiated a degree of academic freedom with the Singapore government that will ensure a full range of expression at Yale-National University of Singapore.
Human Rights Watch recently took Yale to task for “betraying the spirit of the university as a center of open debate and protest by giving away the rights of its students at its new Singapore campus.” Full story
