OPINION: Suu Kyi's win bodes well for Singapore - Satish Cheney

After almost a quarter of a century under house arrest, Myanmar's opposition political leader Aung San Suu Kyi has created history by capturing a seat in parliament after a successful run at what has been termed as one of the most important by-elections in the world.
"Myanmar's graduation into a league of countries that is accorded proper respect will benefit our ties politically and economically," said Associate Professor Bilveer Singh from the Department of Political Science at the National University of Singapore.
"Singapore stands to gain as Myanmar has been an old and tested friend – and a very richly endowed state. Singapore will hope to up the ante of win-win economic ties, building on the good political-diplomatic ties that already exist. However, how exactly this will be done remains to be seen – but the signals and prospects are good and positive looking," he added. Full story
