A question of local talent
An audience member asked the panel why many senior jobs in Singapore are filled by Western expatriates, leaving good local candidates stuck at the mid-level. She asked: “What can we do we get our own talent to step up?”
Gupta said his firm’s head of private banking and its CFO are both Singaporean women. But he added that banks could do more to encourage young people to take responsibilities, allowing for risk taking and making mistakes.
Ferguson pointed out that SCB has more than 50 Singaporeans around the world in top positions, including its chief executive in China. “We don’t care what nationality you are the, the key thing is getting people who are experienced.” Full story
