Philippine Navy removed Chinese markers at disputed Spratly islands, heightening tensions in South China Sea

THE Navy said Wednesday it removed “foreign” markers installed on three reefs and banks in the disputed Spratly islands during and right after the visit of the Chinese defense minister to Manila.
The first removal of the unmarked wooden posts took place in late May, just before the government formally protested over incursions by the Chinese navy in Philippine territorial waters, Navy spokesman Lt. Col. Omar Tonsay told reporters.
Another dismantling was done on June 6, said Commodore Edgardo Tamayo, commander of the Naval Forces West. Full story
