SINGAPORE, April 22 — Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who has called for an early general election on May 7, has said the wealthy city-state is not ready for a two-party political system.
Lee’s People’s Action Party (PAP), which has ruled Singapore since independence in 1965, is almost certain to win the election, but analysts say it may not be able to repeat its overwhelming victory at the last poll in 2006 when it clinched 82 of 84 seats with two-thirds of the vote. Full story
