OPINION: Singapore recruiters always want an exact match with the role

Singapore’s job market has rebounded again during bonus season and hiring in financial institutions is heating up. But although there are many vacancies, matching the requirements of the jobs on offer with my skills and experience has been tricky. Most recruiters are looking for an exact match, which makes it challenging to get a first interview.
In today’s market, a candidate’s ability to learn once in the job is often not even considered. Experiences which are relevant, although not a perfect fit, are not factored in. One of the reasons this happens is that most recruitment consultants and HR people don’t understand the job scope or candidate profile. Full story
