The Singaporean authorities have begun a wide-ranging charm offensive to encourage major British companies to relocate their headquarters amid concerns about the UK corporate and personal tax environment.
I have learned that officials from the city-state's Economic Development Board have made overtures to some of the best-known multinationals in the UK in recent months. The proposals include tailored packages focused on the relocation of both regional and global headquarters.
Among those likely to have been targeted is Standard Chartered, the Asia- and Africa-oriented bank, whose largest shareholder is the Singaporean government investment agency, Temasek Holdings. Full story
