MediaCorp eyes broadband opportunities

Singaporean broadcaster MediaCorp is hoping to become a key player in the country’s planned national broadband network (NBN). Announcing operating profit of S$60.8 million (US$44.9 million) for the year to end-March 2010, up more than threefold from the previous year, the company said the network presented it with an opportunity to leverage its content business.
MediaCorp is the dominant broadcaster in Singapore. The state-owned company operates all seven free-to-air terrestrial channels licensed to broadcast in Singapore, as well as 14 radio channels. Pay-TV platforms StarHub and SingTel’s Mio are the only real TV rivals for MediaCorp. Full story
