Singapore Inflation Surges To 3.2% In April

Consumer price inflation in Singapore picked up in April mainly due to higher costs of transport, housing and recreation, official figures have shown.
The Department of Statistics said the consumer price index (CPI) had risen 3.2% in April compared to a year ago, considerably faster than the 1.6% increase in the previous month. Excluding accommodation costs, the index rose 3.9%.
Transport costs increased 13.4% in April compared to a year ago, due to higher prices of cars and petrol. Housing costs rose 2.9% as a result of higher electricity charges and service & conservancy charges. Food prices went up by 1.2%, due to more expensive prepared meals, vegetables, fresh seafood, chilled pork, as well as rice and other cereals. Full Story
