Nearly 20,000 people across Singapore currently suffer from dementia, which is a prevalence rate of 5.7%. In comparison, other developed nations like Australia, North America and Japan have much higher rates of 6.4%, 6.9% and 8.5%, respectively.
These numbers were yesterday announced in a written answer by Minister of Health Khaw Boon Wan, which was in response to a question on how severe the dementia problem in Singapore is. The question was raised by Mdm Halimah Yacob, Member of Parliament for Jurong GRC. Full Story
