The Rudd government's plan to make Australia a financial services hub would appear, on the surface, to be in trouble, thanks to a near identical plan being hatched by the Singaporean government. And yet all is not lost. Some market participants see a creeping complacency in Singapore, which when combined with what some describe as a lack of acknowledgment of Australia's aspirations, could turn the two nations efforts for financial services supremacy into a real tortoise and the hare race.
