ST Kinetics under cloud, India to buy US howitzers

The government has decided to buy M 777 light weight howitzer guns that are desperately needed by the Army for deployment in mountain regions from the US.
The gun, which is in use with the US Army and Marines, has been chosen over the ultra light howitzer of the tainted defence giant, Singapore Technologies (ST). US formally moved the proposal to sell the guns to India on Wednesday.
American Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified the US Congress of a possible sale of 145 M 777 howitzers , valued at close to $650 million, to India. India will also buy Laser Inertial Artillery Pointing Systems (LIAPS) with the guns that help the gunners to fire accurately. Full Story
