SINGAPORE (Dow Jones)--Banks must refocus in core fundamentals in running a business, but over-regulation is a risk that must be avoided, United Overseas Bank Ltd. (U11.SG) Chief Executive Wee Ee Cheong said Friday.
"No matter how sophisticated, no matter how complex, ours is an industry that is underpinned by the fundamental building blocks of confidence, integrity and trust. These are basic principles in running a bank - principles which may have been forgotten along the way," Wee said in an event held by the Association of Banks of Singapore.
