SINGAPORE – Years ago, a certain Jamie Han had what many believed to be a daring exchange with Mr Lee Kuan Yew during a dialogue with NUS students at the Kent Ridge Ministerial Forum. The former remarked:”No matter how enlightened a despot is, ultimately, he’ll turn into a tyrant if there are no checks and balances in place.” Among the many reactions to the exchanges between Lee and Jamie, the most disturbing one is – Jamie’s career prospects is destroyed. Phrased another way, if one harbors oppositionist views and express them openly, his career prospects will go down the drain.
