Lawmakers reject Singapore math

For now, Singapore math will stay mainly in Singapore.
The House defeated SB159 by a vote of 43-30 after vigorous debate during the session's last hours Thursday night. The bill, sponsored by Sen. Howard Stephenson, R-Draper, would have given competitive grants to school districts that came up with plans for teaching Singapore math in at least kindergarten through sixth grade.
