Travel trade associations’ (TAAI, TAFI and IAAI) meeting with Singapore Airlines (SQ) and SilkAir regarding agency commissions failed miserably, informed Rajji Rai, President, TAAI. The meeting was held in Mumbai today at 2pm. Following the failure of negotiations with the airlines, the Joint Council of Associations (which includes TAAI, IAAI and TAFI) has decided to take stern action against SQ and SilkAir. Rai further stated that they will push the issue very strongly.
According to Biji Eapen, President, IAAI, SQ proposed one per cent commission on each ticket sold by a travel agent, however, members of the associations present at the meeting refused to accept the same. "One per cent commission on per ticket is not feasible and unacceptable. The fact that SQ spoke about commissions gives us hope to win the fight and regain commissions."
