Singaporeans resort to cheaper transportation amid tough times

SINGAPORE, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Latest figures from Singapore's Land Transport Authority showed that taxis are picking up fewer passengers while Mass Rapid Transit trains (MRT) or subways are carrying more, local media reported on Wednesday.

According to Channel news asia's report, passenger numbers for taxis started falling from September 2008, when the global economic crisis started to spread. The biggest fall was in October with a drop by over 50,000 passengers.
