Retrenched foreign workers may become ticking time bomb

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 23, 2008) : The government is worried that the problem of retrenched foreigners will become a "ticking time bomb" as the country's commercial and industrial sectors start to lay off foreign workers in the face of the economic slowdown.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said the global economic crisis will pose a severe challenge to the country's economy as once a lot of people, including foreign workers, lose their jobs, the crime rate will go up.
