Singapore's Jewel Box Restaurant Opens S$10 Million Extension

Oct. 14 (Bloomberg) -- Singapore's cable-car operator opened a S$10 million ($6.9 million) extension to its Jewel Box hilltop restaurant complex last night as part of a plan to transform the tourist destination into a high-end dining venue.

The new two-level dining area in the wooded Mount Faber park incorporates three mature angsana trees that were on the site. The Teflon roof is supported by eight three-story timber arcs made in Japan from strips of hiba wood bound together with glue, a technique known as glue lamination which is lighter and requires less effort to build than steel or concrete.
