SINGAPORE, Oct 17 (Reuters) - Singapore's exports eased slightly in September as shipments to the United States and Europe dipped, hurt by a financial crisis that threatens a prolonged recession for the city-state.
Analysts said the weakness in exports was consistent with last week's preliminary growth data, which showed Singapore's trade-dependent economy fell into recession for the first time in six years in the third quarter.
Exports fell a seasonally adjusted 0.8 percent from August, below economists' forecast for flat growth and following a revised 1.9 percent rise in August.
