It appears that Singapore’s tourism potential was lacklustre for the first six months of 2008, with the latest figures showing a dip of 0.2% in tourism receipts despite an increment of growth for the period.

Based on the 5.1 million arrivals registered for the January to June end period, 2008 grew 2.9% when compared to 2007, tourism receipts also showed spending of SG$6.5 billion, lower than the corresponding period in the previous year.

“The recent economic slowdown and rising costs have brought about a general air of uncertainty, which has impacted consumer sentiments and discretionary spending in many tourism destinations, including Singapore,” said Lim Neo Chian, Singapore Tourism Board (STB) CEO and Deputy Chairman.
