Singapore Biennale 2008 (SB2008)will be held from 11 September to 16 November 2008 (Preview on 9th and 10th September) in various locations including historicbuildings and unique outdoor public spaces. This mega art exhibition will continue to impress and draw wide global attention, as it extends excellent opportunities for local and international art communities, arts businesses as well as diverse arts audiences to interact, collaborate and be engaged in the world of contemporary art.
A major part of the Biennale programming involves cultivating a deeper public engagement with contemporary arts. This will be conducted through the Encounters sessions, comprising of a series of talks, workshops, artist residencies and events. In addition, a series of education projects focusing on primary and secondary school children will accompany the Biennale. SB2008 promises to be refreshing and surprising for multiple levels of audiences – local, regional and international, paying special attention to outreach and education.
The 10-week mega contemporary arts exhibition aims to engage and excite some 800,000 local and overseas visitors. Besides its potential to attract strong participation of international artists, artistic directors, curators, critics, academics and biennale organizers, the Biennale will provide the critical platform for effective exchange and dialogue between Singapore and the global arts community. Building on the success of its first edition in 2006, Singapore Biennale 2008 aims to enhance the profile of Singapore contemporary arts and strongly positions Singapore as a vibrant global city for the arts.
