Is Singapore's arts scene poised to bloom?

SINGAPORE (Reuters Life!) - Could Singapore be going through an artistic renaissance? An alliance with a prestigious arts festival has reopened the debate about the arts in a country better known for its censorship laws than its creative cache.

Last week, the Singapore Arts Festival, now in its 31st year, announced a tie-up with the Edinburgh International Arts Festival which would see several local productions debuting abroad.

The director of the annual Scottish festival, Jonathan Mills, declined to give specific details but said the city-state had greatly advanced in recognizing that creativity was crucial.
