Singapore premier Lee Hsien Loong defended his record under cross- examination by one of his harshest critics yesterday as he pressed for damages over opposition allegations of government corruption.
"This case is not about money," the prime minister, 56, said on the witness stand as he was questioned by opposition leader Chee Soon Juan. "This case is about establishing the truth and putting a stop to poisonous lies."
The premier and his 84-year-old father, independence leader Lee Kuan Yew, have already won a summary judgment against the Singapore Democratic Party, its secretary-general Chee and his sister Chee Siok Chin.
