2007 was a record year for Singapore tourism. Not only did they cross the milestone of over 10 million visitor arrivals for the first time, but also achieved S$13.8 billion in global tourism receipts. India had a major role to play in this since 749,000 Indians visited Singapore last year, making India the fourth largest source market for the island nation, with a growth of 14% over 2006. Also, the 10 millionth visitor to Singapore was an Indian. At the city-level, Chennai ranked as the 2nd largest market in India and the largest in South India with more than ninety thousand tourists visiting the country registering a year-on-year growth of 17.05%.
