Singapore - Office rents in Singapore are now higher than in Hong Kong, a property firm said Friday. Total occupancy cost in the city-state reached 10.42 US dollars per square foot (112.16 dollars per square metre) per month at the end of last year compared with 9.74 dollars per square foot (104.84 dollars per square metre) for Hong Kong, said CB Richard Ellis (CBRE).

Total occupancy cost reflects base rents as well as other property-related expenses, including management fees and property tax.

CBRE said competition for pockets of vacant space in Singapore's central business district remained intense and "several expansion transactions toward the end of the fourth quarter suggested that demand may be sustained."
