The unlinkable Straits Times has a report on the new Tianjin eco-city being developed by China and Singapore after ministers met yesterday to discuss progress. A draft of 18 key performance indicators has been established - set at the ‘high end of Chinese national standards’ - for air and water quality, transport, recycling, green buildings and energy use. In addition Mr Mah emphasised creating a socially harmonious city and advocated personal responsibility: ‘You can build, plan…but if the people living in the green buildings, for example, don’t accept the responsibilities… then the benefits of having them, the energy savings, resource conservation will not be realised,’ he said. On a separate note Qatar Investment Authority in Doha has been invited to partner in the venture.
