A Singapore court yesterday charged a Filipino worker with murder for killing his fellow compatriot on Saturday in Singapore.

The Philippine embassy in Singapore said it was seeking the permission of Singaporean authorities to visit the detained Filipino worker, whose identity is still being withheld.

Under Singaporean law, no one is allowed to visit the suspect, even his wife.

Authorities identified the victim as Bernard Montemayor Alojado, 26, who was reportedly found dead wearing only a pair of shorts at the apartment he shared with three Filipino couples. He visited the city state as a tourist.

Alojado, who reportedly died of strangulation, was heard having an argument in the apartment. His neck bore ligature marks.

In 1995, Flor Contemplacion was slapped with the death sentence for killing her compatriot Delia Magat and her Singaporean ward Nicholas Wang.

On May 28, 2006, the Singaporean High Court imposed a 10-year imprisonment to Guen Aguilar who was convicted of homicide over the death of fellow Filipino worker Jane La Puebla. (Charissa M. Luci)
