Family of reporter jailed in China seeks his parole

HONG KONG (AFP) — The family of a Hong Kong reporter jailed in China for espionage activities plans to ask for his parole, his wife said Thursday, as the journalist marked 1,000 days behind bars.

Veteran Hong Kong journalist Ching Cheong, 58, chief China correspondent for Singapore's The Straits Times, was arrested in April 2005. The following year he was sentenced to five years in jail, accused of spying for Taiwan. >>>> More
