Public concern about using taxpayers' money to fund new buses for transport companies

Members of the public are questioning the government's decision to fund new buses for transport operators.
A $1.1 billion package was recently announced in this year's budget to pay for 550 new buses to improve the public transport network.
The sum will also cover the vehicles' operating costs for ten years, and pay for the necessary bus drivers.
On top of this, the bus operators will be funding 250 new buses to make a total of 800, a number equivalent to the growth of public buses in the last 20 years. Full story
