Malaysia Star, 6 Sep 2011
SINGAPORE (AP) - Two second-half goals gave Iraq a 2-0 away win over Singapore on Tuesday and its first points in third-round Asian qualifying for the 2014 World Cup.
The Iraqis controlled play throughout the game, missing several close-range chances in the first half. Iraq kept the pressure on at the start of the second half and broke through in the 50th minute when striker Alaa Abdul-Zahra headed home.
Captain Younis Mahmoud sealed the visitor's win with a second goal in the 86th minute.
Iraq, coached by former Brazil great Zico, has three points after two games. Iraq suffered a disappointing 2-0 home loss against Jordan last Friday.
Singapore lost 2-1 to China last week and has no points.
China visits Jordan later Tuesday in the other Group A game. Link
